Product Review: Organic Hunza Sweet Apricot Kernels (RAW)

While walking the aisles at my local healthy food store Jimbo’s, something looking like a bag of almonds caught my eye, as I love organic almonds. To my surprise the label said “Hunza Sweet Apricot Kernals.” Hmmm, now that sounds interesting and different, as IGary's Health Tips Product Review Organic Hunza Apricot Kernels had never heard of them before. After reading the label (As you all know I recommend doing so no matter what the product is) I decided to give this new little treat a try. As we all know finding those easy to carry healthy snacks is always a challenge and you can only eat so many almonds in a day. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised, as I was not sure what to expect from this new found food. The Hunza Sweet Apricot Kernels, have a slight sweet taste and do taste somewhat like an apricot. The consistency and texture of the kernel is pretty much the same as an almond, but just with a different taste.

The price is not too bad at $5.99 and you can buy them and other tasty snacks at, if you cannot find them in your local grocery or health food store.

I’m now hooked and have incorporated Organic Hunza Sweet Apricot Kernels into my between meals snack. They go really well with some sliced cheese and berries.

I give this tasty snack a Primal Power Method thumbs up!

How to Not Let Everyday Stress Sabotage Your Health Routine

As my friends and family know, my favorite holiday of the year is Thanksgiving. This is the one day where I let it all go with no inhibitions, or worry about what I’m putting into my mouth. I just flat out go for it. Of course I pay for it the next day, but it is well worth it. In my philosophy I prescribe that people should have a day such as this from time to time, we only get to live once we shouldn’t have to worry about our food choices 24/7.

Since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year I have my special routine I go through in order to prepare myself. I eat a small dinner the night before and go on a fast until the Thanksgiving meal is served. In addition, I wake up early the day of Thanksgiving and go to the gym to get a good workout in before I stuff myself silly.

Per my routine, I woke up early on Thanksgiving day in order to go to the gym, but when I walked up to my vehicle I noticed something odd. My passenger side window was missing and seemed to be scattered on the ground. Oh no, not a good start to my favorite holiday of the year. After being angry for about 5 minutes I realized there was nothing I could do, what was done was done. I then called the local Sheriff’s Department and patiently waited for them to arrive. During this time I didn’t stew or work myself into a tizzy, I just retrieved the vacuum cleaner and prepared for cleanup after the Sheriff’s Deputy had taken his report. Once the report was done I cleaned up the mess and realized my gym time was pretty much shot and I wouldn’t be able to get my workout in and make it to Thanksgiving on time.

Build a Winning Exercise Program with These “Do Anywhere” Movements

I will often get asked what are the best exercises for losing weight or to get those ripped abs. My response is always the same; there is no perfect exercise for any specific goal it is a well rounded nutrition and exercise family push upprogram that accomplishes these goals. The latest vibrating or gyrating piece of equipment or the recycled starvation diet is not the answer. As most of you know I always preach proper nutrition as the main component of being healthy and getting the body of your dreams. With that being said, there are some very basic exercises that I tell all of my clients to implement no matter what their skill level. Of course I also use these exercises in my own workout routine, I never tell people to do things that I know nothing about and I always practice what I preach.

Let’s take a look at three very basic exercises that I believe everyone can benefit from and the best part can be done anywhere, anytime.

How to Prevent Holiday Weight Gain: 10 Tips to Fight and Win the Battle!

I consider Halloween to be the official kickoff for the holiday season eating and weight gain battle. And let’s face it Halloween starts it off with a bang! For two solid months we are constantly enticed by sweet treats, alcoholic beverages, office party’s, family get togethers and just flat out good old American gluttony. So what can you do during these trying eating times and stay on track with your health goals? You could just stay home and hide from all the festivities, but let’s face it that just isn’t a realistic way to approach the problem. You could also go to all the events, but just not eat any of the tempting butt and gut, fat adding foods and drinks. Again that doesn’t seam reasonable and not a lot of fun. For those of you who are familiar with my philosophy, living like a food monk is not something I prescribe to, but more of smart choices and balance. With that being said, let’s take a look at some strategies you can employ in your battle of the holiday bulge.

1. Make a deal with your kids that everyone gets to eat two pieces of Halloween candy once a week until it is gone. More than likely the most desired pieces of candy will be taken first and they will soon lose interest with the remaining candy. Also make it a special event and you might even be able to make it your cheat day for those of you who prescribe to my cheat meal/day technique.

2. Probably the easiest tactic to use, is eat a healthy prepared meal before you attend a holiday or office party. The worst thing you can do is go to one of these events hungry, that almost guarantees you will shovel down several food items that will cause you great distress later on.

3. If it just isn’t possible to eat before you attend a holiday party, right before you eat drink about 20 oz of water. This will help fill your stomach and you will be far less likely to overeat.

Taking Multi-Vitamins Found to Reduce Cancer

A just-released study of nearly 15,000 men over the age of 50 suggests that taking a daily supplemental multi-vitamin could reduce rates of cancer by about eight percent. Dr. Michael Gaziano, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and lead author of the study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association. “Our study shows a modest but significant benefit in cancer prevention.”
New American Nutrition Vitamins

So if a multivitamin prevents cancer because it provides a mix of nutrients similar to food, why not just eat more fruits and vegetables? Diets high in fruits and vegetables have been shown in observational studies to reduce the incidence of cancer and other chronic diseases.

Sadly only 1.5 percent of the public gets the recommended daily allowance of fruits and vegetables, according to Dr. David Katz, director of the Yale Prevention Research Center.
