The Simple Life Grass Fed Whey Protein is a great tasting protein powder that contains a combination of whey concentrate and isolate. This is a perfect combination, in that the whey concentrate acts as a slow digesting and absorbing protein, and the whey isolate is a quickly digested, fast absorbing protein to feed muscles more quickly.
In our carb-heavy world, it’s important to remember that protein is an essential part of our diets. Our bodies use it to repair muscle, grow tissue, regulate hormones, assist with metabolic control, defend against illness and assist in healing wounds. Every cell in the body is partly comprised of protein and is constantly exposed to wear and tear. Regular protein consumption is vital to help repair and replace these cells.
You constantly lose amino acids via exercise, muscular contractions and movement, all of which stimulate the use of protein stores (known as protein metabolism). This is why athletes regularly eat large quantities of complete proteins to maintain easy-to-access supplies of amino acids for muscle repair, growth and energy. If your amino acid intake falls below the amount required for your activity level, your body will cannibalize your internal sources of protein, such as enzymes and structural proteins.
Why Grass Fed Is Better
Here’s the bottom line: Cows are not designed to eat grains, corn, and soy as their principal ration, if at all. This type of CAFO-driven diet makes them sick and is why cows on large-scale, commercial farms usually require large doses of antibiotics to suppress their symptoms of poor health.
Cows are designed to eat grass, period. The rumen (the largest compartment of a cow’s four-part stomach) is where ingested grass is broken down by bacteria that naturally live in the cow’s gut.
These same bacteria are not, however, efficient at breaking down the grains, corn, and soy products that the modern cow consumes today. The grains also alter the pH (acid/base balance) of the bovine rumen, preventing normal digestive function.
Making matters worse, the corn and soy that is fed to most commercially farmed cows is nearly always genetically modified (GMO).
Remember: You are what you eat, but you also become what your food eats!
